This November, as part of the committee’s ongoing community outreach initiatives, staff participated in a tour of the Riverdale Community led by community activist and We Keep You Rollin’ Founder Ms. Deloris Lucas.

We Keep You Rollin’ is a bike and wellness group dedicated to improving the quality of life of the Riverdale Community. In addition to this work, Ms. Lucas is a champion of many mobility-related projects and initiatives in the far south side of the city, and remains an advocate for infrastructure investments that will increase mobility safety in her community.

During the tour Ms. Lucas highlighted pedestrian safety concerns in the area, as well as areas slated for bike trail expansion and additional safe street buildouts. Many of the potential improvements are highlighted in CMAP’s Riverdale Multimodal Transportation Plan, published in 2019. The committee staff looks forward to working with CMAP, CDOT and local area officials to help realize some of the goals outlined by the plan. Especially in light of upcoming projects in the works for the greater Riverdale community, including the Lake Calumet Bike Network Study, the 130th Streetscape, and the planned Red Line Extension to 130th Street.

If you’d like to invite the committee staff to a tour of your community, please don’t hesitate to reach out by calling (312) 744-3063 or emailing committeeonpedestrianandtrafficsafety@cityofchicago.org.
