The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a global event held every third Sunday of November to honor those who have lost their lives or been impacted by roadway crashes. Nationally, we continue to experience record-high traffic deaths. And here in Chicago, 160 people died on our streets while walking, biking, or driving, and 2,215 people were seriously injured in traffic related crashes in 2022.

To honor the day of remembrance, CDOT's SAFE Ambassadors team is collecting messages to compile a collective experience around traffic safety, identify priorities for road safety strategies, and encourage change. Their team will then be creating a short video highlighting people's responses and calls for action across our city.

Advocates, elected officials, and community members are participating in the message collection through Nov. 11th. To submit a written, spoken, or recorded message to CDOT about how you want to prioritize traffic safety in your community, submit your message to cdot.safe@gmail.com by Nov. 11.

You can share your message on social media and tag CODT's team at @chicagosafe @chicago.dot If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to our committee team at committeeonpedestrianandtrafficsafety@cityofchicago.org
